Report: Tom Brady not expected to play in Patriots’ preseason opener vs. Lions

One player that will not be seen on the playing field Thursday night during the New England Patriots’ preseason opener vs. the Detroit Lions is quarterback Tom Brady.

The 42-year-old QB is not expected to play, according to Kevin Duffy of The Boston Herald. That will make it four consecutive seasons that Brady won’t play in the team’s season opener.

All eyes will be on rookie QB Jarrett Stidham, who is sure to get a bunch of work early in the game, as he has outplayed Brian Hoyer in training camp and could be the starting QB against Detroit.
