It seems the Atlanta Falcons don’t have any major concerns about Todd Gurley’s knee. After a lengthy delay of more than two months due to travel restrictions stemming from the coronavirus, Gurley has finally passed his physical with the Falcons after flying out to Atlanta. The report comes from Adam Schefter of ESPN.
In an offseason where several teams have backed out of free-agent contracts, this is a big step for Gurley and the Falcons. Had there been a serious concern about his knee from an MRI or otherwise, the Falcons could’ve pulled their offer and allowed Gurley to hit the market again.
Additionally, this news likely means the Rams will pay Gurley the money he’s owed. The team may have been waiting until his deal with the Falcons became official, since there’s offset language in his contract where the team gets a discount if he signs a contract worth at least $2.5 million.
He’s still owed more than $5 million by the Rams, which he’s reminded the team about on several occasions. He should see the money hit his account in the near future, now that he’s officially a member of the Falcons.
The Rams cut Gurley back in March, taking on $20.15 million in dead money. That will be spread out over the next two years, and the team got $5.5 million in cap relief on June 2 when his contract came off the books.
Gurley agreed to a one-year deal worth $5.5 million with the Falcons one day after being cut by the Rams.
