Report: Titans signing P Ryan Allen to fill in for Brett Kern

The Tennessee Titans have reportedly made a decision about who will fill in for injured punter Brett Kern in Week 9 against the Chicago Bears.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Titans are signing former New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons punter Ryan Allen, who will also apparently serve as the team’s holder for Sunday’s contest.

Allen was one of five punters the Titans were taking a look out in tryouts, with the others being Lachlan Edwards, Dustin Colquitt, Trevor Daniel and Austin Rehkow.

Allen last played in 2019 with the Falcons. In eight games, the Louisiana Tech product averaged 41.9 yards per punt and landed half of his 28 attempts inside the 20.

Prior to his time in Atlanta, Allen spent six seasons with the Patriots, totaling 45.3 yards per punt. He was also part of three Super Bowl wins with New England.

While Allen should provide a steady foot for the Titans, he’ll have enormous shoes to fill, as he’s attempting to temporarily replace the best punter in the NFL.
