Report: Titans ‘really like’ C.J. Stroud, have him as top QB in draft

The Tennessee Titans may look to the NFL draft for their next quarterback, and if they had their pick of the lot, the team reportedly prefers Ohio State signal-caller, C.J. Stroud.

According to ESPN’s Turron Davenport during a segment on “Stillman and Company”, he revealed that the Titans “really like” Stroud and have him as their top quarterback in this year’s draft.

Of course, the chances of Stroud falling to 11 with so many quarterback-needy teams in front of the Titans is slim and none, so Tennessee would almost certainly have to trade up to get him.

As Davenport rightly notes, the Titans will likely have to move up to at least No. 3 to land him, which could prove to be difficult with the amount of teams looking for a signal-caller ahead of them.

The No. 3 pick is owned by the Arizona Cardinals and new general manager, Monti Ossenfort, who spent three years in Nashville and has made it clear Arizona is open for business with the selection.

So, what could it cost to move up to No. 3?

Well, we can get a general idea from the San Francisco 49ers’ 2021 NFL draft trade when they moved up from No. 12 to No. 3 to select Trey Lance. The Niners dealt their first-round pick that year, along with two other future selections, including two firsts and a third.

It remains to be seen if Stroud will even be around at that pick, though, as it’s very possible he goes in the first two picks if the Chicago Bears trade the No. 1 overall selection to a team wanting a quarterback, which they are expected to do.

I don’t think the Titans have the juice to move up to No. 1, as the Bears will prefer an earlier pick to land another player they covet.

If the Titans do find themselves in a position to nab either Stroud or Bryce Young with a package of picks, they should definitely pull the trigger, but chances are that won’t be possible.
