Report: Titans, Falcons talking Julio Jones trade; Tennessee considered a long shot

After having only speculation to go on, we now have a report that gives a bit more insight into the Tennessee Titans’ possible interest in a trade for Atlanta Falcons star wide receiver, Julio Jones.

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, who is normally pretty connected to all things Titans, the two sides have indeed discussed a trade for the seven-time Pro Bowler and are still talking, but she was also told that Tennessee is “a long shot” to land him.

Russini also reports that the Falcons have fielded many trade offers for Jones, and one of them includes a future first-round pick, although it isn’t clear what team is offering that. It appears we could see a conclusion to the Jones trade saga as early as next week.

For those of us on the Jones trade train, this is both good and bad news. Yes, the Titans appear to be interested in the star wideout, but the idea that they’re a long shot doesn’t make us feel great about things. Furthermore, general manager Jon Robinson might balk at giving up a first-round pick.

If the Titans really want Jones they can go get him. They figure to have the draft capital necessary to appease the Falcons, and they can free up money with a contract restructure or two to fit Jones in.
