Report: Titans expected to release safety Johnathan Cyprien

The Tennessee Titans have spent a good portion of the offseason mulling over what to do about the situation surrounding safeties Kenny Vaccaro and Johnathan Cyprien.

While Cyprien did prove he could be an effective player for the Titans, Vaccaro proved that he may be even more impactful in Cyprien’s absence.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Titans are sticking with Vaccaro and are expected to release Cyprien sometime during the week.

It appears the Titans did make efforts to keep him on the roster, but weren’t able to come to terms on the money aspect.

Cyprien originally signed a four-year deal worth $25 million with the Titans in 2017, and was scheduled to be paid a $5.5 million base salary in 2019.

In one season with Tennessee, the strong safety recorded 57 tackles and a sack in his only season with the team. He was placed on injured reserve after sustaining an ACL injury during training camp last season.
