Report: Thunder not ‘angling for a splashy draft day’

With the 2019 NBA Finals nearing an end — and former Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka one win away from his first NBA title — the focus around the league will turn toward the NBA Draft. Though for the other 28 teams not participating in the NBA Finals, the focus has already been on the league-wide event set for June 20.

The Thunder have taken a look at multiple players to this point in the process. The list of candidates the team has worked out includes Marques Bolden (Duke), Talen Horton-Tucker (Iowa State), Jalen McDaniels (San Diego State), Lagerald Vick (Kansas) and Daniel Gafford (Arkansas), as reported by USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s Thunder Wire.

The Thunder have reportedly had conversations about trading their first-round pick (No. 21), but Basketball Insiders’ Steve Kyler’s report indicates Oklahoma City won’t be moving the pick — and the Thunder may do nothing more than draft from their one designated slot, having traded this year’s second-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Hamidou Diallo in the 2018 NBA Draft.
