Minnesota has some options with two picks in the first round, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported one of those options could be trading back in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Fowler reported that multiple executives believe the Vikings are primed to move back. Minnesota has the 22nd and the 25th overall picks, and doing so could help the team fulfill more positional needs later on.
Here is some of what the ESPN article said about the situation:
“The Vikings could package one of their first-rounders for more volume, on the way to getting impact players at both positions. Some project A.J. Terrell from Clemson as the No. 3 corner because of his size and press-man ability. If so, that could still leave solid choices late in the first round or early in the second round, including LSU’s Kristian Fulton, Alabama’s Trevon Diggs (former Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs’ brother) and Utah’s Jaylon Johnson. Some teams have second-round grades on these players but really like them overall.”
With the depth at corner in this year’s draft, it makes some sense to move back and find a player later. However, moving back runs the risk of drafting a player who might not be good enough to start and excel at an NFL level. Minnesota will likely have to draft at least decent starters if it doesn’t want to take a step back in 2020.
