Report: Texans workout running backs, long snappers

The Houston Texans continue to tinker their roster. On Tuesday, the team hosted a flurry of workouts.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Houston worked out long snappers Andrew DePaola, Matt Overton and Wes Farnsworth and running backs Darius Jackson and Austin Walter in addition to previously reported workouts of wide receivers Eli Rogers, J.J. Nelson and cornerback E.J. Gaines.

Houston’s interest in long snappers stems from an ankle injury from Week 7 to their current long snapper, Jon Weeks. Weeks is a 10-year veteran and made the Pro-Bowl in 2015. Wilson notes that he should be available to play on Sunday, against the Oakland Raiders. The workouts are precautionary.

Jackson is a 2016 sixth-round pick (Dallas Cowboys) out of Eastern Michigan. He spent three stints in the panhandle, with time recorded with the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers sandwiched in.

Jackson has recorded six rush attempts for 16 yards in the NFL, all with the Cowboys in 2018.

Walter is a former University of Rice standout. He is an undrafted rookie free agent who spent training camp with the San Francisco 49ers before being waived. He landed on the New York Giants practice squad, was activated for a game and was released on Oct. 11th.
