Report: Texans workout OL Ulrick John, four safeties

The Texans continue to tinker. Amid injuries to their depth at offensive line, Houston brought in offensive lineman Ulrick John for a workout, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Safeties Marcus Gilchrist, Mike Adams, Jonathan Owens and Jordan Richards joined John as those to workout with the Texans. In doing so, the team projected they’d like to add depth behind Justin Reid, Tashaun Gipson and Jahleel Addae.

John has bounced around the NFL since the Indianapolis Colts made him a seventh-round selection in 2014. A 6-5, 312-pound tackle, he spent 2018 with the New England Patriots and 2019 training camp with the New Orleans Saints.

Gilchrist is a familiar face. In 2017, he started 13 games for Houston. In the process, recording 56 combined tackles, six pass deflections and an interception. The Texans let him go after one season. After serving as a starter for the Oakland Raiders, Gilchrist remains a free agent.

Adams, at 38, is the veteran of the bunch. In Houston, he’s most recognizable for his three seasons as a starter in Indianapolis in which he went to two straight Pro-Bowls. He spent 2018 as a starter for the Carolina Panthers.

Owens went undrafted out of Missouri Western State in 2018. He spent his rookie season on the Arizona Cardinals injured reserve.

A former second-round pick by the Patriots (2015), Richards spent 2018 with the Atlanta Falcons and 2019 training camp with Oakland. He started 12 games for the Falcons in his lone season in Georgia.
