Report: Texans working out former Steelers WR Eli Rogers

The Houston Texans are back to work after a disappointing 30-23 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. With that, they are finding ways to improve their roster.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Houston is working out free agent wide receiver Eli Rogers. The Texans’ interest in Rogers likely brews from DeAndre Carter’s frustrating return tactics as of late.

Rogers, 26, went undrafted out of Louisville in 2015. He stuck with the Pittsburgh Steelers until they released him on the cut-down day (Aug. 31st) in 2019.

Rogers accumulated 78 receptions for 822 yards and four touchdowns in 30 games with the Steelers (15 starts). He handled punt-return duties while doing so, returning 26 for 191 yards between 2016 and ’17.

The former Steeler is listed at 5-10, 187-pounds. Rogers ran a 4.57-second 40-yard-dash at his 2015 Louisville pro day. He tore his ACL in the 2018 postseason and made a full recovery.

If Houston were to sign Rogers, they would need to clear a roster spot.
