Report: Texans to interview former Lions GM, current 49ers personnel boss Martin Mayhew

The Houston Texans seek to interview former Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew, who is in Houston.

According to NFL Network and Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager, the Texans, who fired general manager Brian Gaine on June 7, are taking a look at Mayhew, who is currently the vice president of player personnel for the San Francisco 49ers.

Mayhew was the general manager for the Lions from 2008-15 and helped turn Detroit around after a demoralizing 0-16 finish in 2008. Incidentally, Mayhew took over for Matt Millen, who was fired four weeks into that disastrous regular season.

In 2016, Mayhew became the director of football operations for the New York Giants, which was their last postseason appearance to date.

In 2017, Mayhew joined the 49ers as a senior personnel executive for two seasons before being named vice president of player personnel in 2019.

Last training camp, the Texans and 49ers held joint training camp at NRG Methodist Training Center.
