Report: Texans sign safety Mike Adams, reshuffle practice squad

The Houston Texans are signing 16-year veteran safety Mike Adams, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

The 38-year-old Adams worked out with the Texans over the weekend, alongside a group of other defensive backs. He’ll add depth behind Justin Reid and Tashaun Gipson, who were both on the injury report last week. Both played on Sunday against the Panthers.

With Adams, Houston has three safeties behind their starters, including Jahleel Addae and A.J. Moore.

Adams is a two-time Pro-Bowl selection. He’s spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers. Both of his Pro-Bowl appearances took place during his time in Indianapolis (2014-16).

In addition to signing Adams, Houston added safety Jonathan Owens to their practice squad, according to Aaron Wilson of Houston Chronicle. To do so, the Texans cut rookie Austin Exford.

The Texans aren’t done making moves. To open up a spot on the 53-man, they’ll have to cut a player.
