Report: Texans RT Tytus Howard to miss several weeks with sprained MCL

Good news: Houston Texans right tackle Tytus Howard did not tear his ACL in the 31-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bad news: The rookie did sprain his MCL in the third quarter at Arrowhead Stadium and will miss several weeks.

This information is according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The ding to the Texans’ offensive line comes at a point where the five-man unit was starting to find its cohesion and is coming off of two consecutive games where quarterback Deshaun Watson did not take a single sack.

Roderick Johnson filled in for Howard after he went out of the game. Going forward, this may be the plan for the Texans, though they will also have Seantrel Henderson active.

Houston selected Howard with their first-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft to provide protection for Watson and open running lanes for the running backs. The Alabama State product has started five games for the Texans.
