Report: Texans RT Tytus Howard did not tear ACL versus the Chiefs

Houston Texans fans got quite a scare Sunday afternoon against the Kansas City Chief when rookie right tackle Tytus Howard went down with a knee injury.

Though officially he was labeled as questionable to return, his ride on the cart in the third quarter with his teammates and Chiefs players consoling him as he rode away did not have the looks of “questionable” or “return” written anywhere on it.

According to a report from Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the first-round rookie from Alabama State did not tear his ACL, which bodes well as to his availability for the rest of the season.

However, it is worth noting that there are more tests awaiting, and they could present a whole different prognosis for the promising Texans rookie tackle.

Howard has been part of the solution to keeping quarterback Deshaun Watson upright in the past two games. The Pro Bowl field general has not taken a single sack in the past two weeks, and it is the third time in Watson’s career he has not been sacked in 29 games.

If Howard is not able to go for any extended period of time, given the results on Sunday, Roderick Johnson could replace Howard on the right side.
