Report: Texans made offer to safety Tyrann Mathieu

The Houston Texans have made an offer to free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu. However, the Honey Badger still wants to test the market.

According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, Mathieu was offered a deal over $9.5 million, but the former LSU Tiger still wants to see what is out there.

The safety market is flooded with a lot of impactful players at the position. Enter Earl Thomas and Landon Collins just to name a couple.

Mathieu had two interceptions, 89 combined tackles, and 70 solo tackles on his one year $7 million deal he signed last year.

Signing Mathieu is a priority for second-year general Brian Gaine, and it looks as if they do indeed have every intention of getting a new deal done. What the Texans have that the other clubs do not is familiarity. Houston’s locker room embraced Mathieu and voted him a team captain. At the end of the season, the Honey Badger said he wanted to stay, and the front office wants him to stay.

Free agency will reveal whether money is the most important factor.
