Report: Texans in the market for running back help

The Houston Texans are in the market for running back help. Given how the position progressed throughout training camp and the preseason, it isn’t that much of a surprise.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans and the New York Jets are both clubs that are looking for help at the running back position through trades.

For the Texans to use trades to secure a player they like is interesting given the fact they traded for Duke Johnson with the Cleveland Browns. Houston is already in the hole a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft due to the trade, and could be in for a third-round pick if Johnson is active for more than 10 games, which is an eventuality at this point given starter Lamar Miller tearing his ACL.

Through Friday night, the Texans have cut running back Josh Ferguson as they move towards finalizing their 53-man roster by 3:00 p.m. Central Time Saturday. Undrafted free agents Karan Higdon and Damarea Crockett remain on the roster along with veterans Buddy Howell, Taiwan Jones, and Johnson. However, the Texans may not think these five running backs are capable enough to carry the run game without a little outside help.
