Report: Texans had interest in Nick Caserio the day they fired Brian Gaine

How soon did the Houston Texans have interest in New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio? Try the night they fired general manager Brian Gaine.

According to a report from the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain, the Texans made their request to interview Caserio on Friday night. Recall that Gaine was fired Friday afternoon.

This kind of lends credibility to the theory Albert Breer from Monday Morning Quarterback put forward that current Texans executive vice president of team development Jack Easterby, a former Patriots character coach, gauged interest in Caserio at the Patriots’ Super Bowl ring ceremony Thursday evening. There is no other reason to call Caserio the night Gaine is dismissed other than the fact the former might be interested in the latter’s job.

If the move to fire Gaine was indeed made to get Caserio, the Texans better hope the longtime Patriots personnel boss wants to relocate to Harris County. Otherwise, the Texans ran a gambit that could have unintended consequences.
