The Houston Texans’ philosophy of stacking their backfield with veteran runners did not leave when they fired coach and general manager Bill O’Brien four games into the 2020 season.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Texans have agreed to a one-year contract with former Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram. The agreement with the 31-year-old running back is worth up to $3 million.
Ingram provided the Ravens with 299 yards and two touchdowns on 72 carries through 11 games last year. The former 2011 first-round pick from Alabama also caught six passes for 50 yards.
The 5-9, 215-pounder is a year removed from his third Pro Bowl season. In 2019, Ingram rushed 202 times for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns as the Ravens produced a 14-2 record and achieved the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.
Houston already has David Johnson in the backfield and restructured the former 2016 All-Pro running back’s contract to keep him around
Ingram has a connection with new coach David Culley, who was the passing game coordinator and receivers coach for the Ravens for the past two seasons.
