Report: Teams making ‘preliminary inquiries’ on Colts’ Marlon Mack

As the trade deadline approaches, it seems the market for Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack is heating up.

The 25-year-old back, who is on the trading block, has reportedly generated preliminary inquiries from four teams, per Josina Anderson of USA TODAY. Those four teams are the Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.

What preliminary inquiries mean isn’t clear. They could just be calling Chris Ballard to check the price of trading for Mack. Or they could have some serious interest.

It was reported two weeks ago that the Chiefs had made some calls to the Colts about Mack after starter Clyde Edwards-Helaire went down with a knee injury. He’s still on the injured reserve list, and it isn’t clear when he’ll be back.

That’s the theme with the majority of teams looking at Mack as a potential acquisition. The Panthers, Chiefs and 49ers have all dealt with injuries to their backfield. The Saints might just be looking for depth behind Alvin Kamara, especially with backup Tony Jones on the injured reserve list.

It will be interesting to see if a deal gets done before the deadline, but the market for Mack appears to be heating up.
