Report: Teams interested in Marcus Maye, but Jets not making him available

With Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline looming, the Jets are receiving calls on some of their most valuable players.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets have been hearing from teams that are interested in third-year safety Marcus Maye. However, the Jets have told those teams that he’s not available for trade. The Jets are taking calls on both Leonard Williams and Robby Anderson, though.

If Maye were to be traded, the Jets would likely get a decent haul back. Maye is only 26 years old and still has two years left on his rookie deal before he becomes a free agent. Any team that would acquire him would be getting him on the cheap and under team control.

Maye is finally healthy again and looking like his normal self after having an injury-riddled 2018 season. In seven games, Maye has 28 combined tackles and three pass defenses.

The Jets look at Maye as one of their key pieces for the future. They have him and Jamal Adams locking down both safety positions for years to come, so there would be no reason to split the two of them up just to accumulate extra draft capital.

It’s that time of the year when teams find out who is going to be available at the deadline, but it doesn’t appear that Maye will be going anywhere this week.
