Report: Suns have interest in Luke Walton if they fire Kokoskov

In several NBA circles, it is already being considered that Luke Walton will be the fall guy for the Lakers’ incredibly disappointing first season with LeBron James.

But it appears the stench of the Lakers’ dysfunction won’t stick to Walton if he does get let go. According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, the Phoenix Suns are a team that would have interest in Walton given his history as a star at University of Arizona. However, getting to that point would mean the Suns firing Igor Kokoskov one season.

From Deveney:

A source told Sporting News that Walton, who starred at Arizona, is seen as a top potential replacement for Kokoskov should the Suns make a move.

With only 13 games left in the Suns season, they’re five wins short of their total wins from last season of 21. Also, the other caveat here is Phoenix owner Robert Sarver, who is widely seen as impatient and meddlesome.

If Walton does get fired, he will potentially have better offers than just Phoenix. However, another top pick and Devin Booker might be attractive enough to entice Walton to take the plunge in the Valley of the Sun.
