Report suggests David Wilson Homes East Midlands contributed more than £124m to UK economy last year

A regional subsidiary of Barratt Developments is reported to have contributed more than £124 million to the UK economy last year after building 423 homes.

David Wilson Homes East Midlands completed the new homes in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire, in the year to last June.

A report commissioned by the Coalville-based housebuilder suggests it supported 1,920 jobs directly and through its contractors and suppliers, and employed 35 new graduates, trainees and apprentices.

In all, the business said it supported 420 subcontractor companies and 380 supplier companies, while 90 per cent of components used in the construction process were manufactured in the UK.

It also spent £4.4 million on local communities through the Community Infrastructure Levy and S106 contributions with local councils.

Annual accounts for David Wilson Homes Ltd to last June show the annual sales price for one of its homes was up 2 per cent at £317,100.

The developer is currently working on schemes in Wigston, Hugglescote, Fleckney, Kibworth and Market Harborough.

John Reddington, managing director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “As a five star housebuilder, we are very aware of the vital role we play in helping to boost the local economy.

“We are committed to a strategy that includes leaving a positive and lasting legacy in the communities in which we build homes.

“This can be through anything including job creation, strengthening surrounding businesses or enhancing and protecting the local environment.

“We are very proud to be a major force in the growth and prosperity of the region, and look forward to continuing our work in 2021.”

The report on David Wilson Homes’ Socio-Economic Footprint in 2020 was carried out by Lichfields planning and development consultancy.
