Report: Steven Adams Urged Discipline Before Morant Incident

Since the Saturday morning Instagram Live that appeared to show Grizzlies guard Ja Morant flash a gun while in a nightclub, both the NBA and Colorado police have launched investigations into the incident while the team announced the 23-year-old would miss time

According to reports, however, Memphis tried to take steps toward righting the ship even before Morant’s most recent incident. That included a players-only meeting where one of the Grizzlies’ most respected veterans reportedly spoke up, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported in a Tuesday afternoon video.

Center Steven Adams—a 10-year contributor to the Thunder, Pelicans and Memphis—reportedly urged his teammates to conduct themselves more professionally on the road.

“I’m told there was a players-only meeting recently,” Charania said. “Steven Adams, their veteran center, he spoke out about how the team needs to show better discipline on the road and how they need to avoid going out on the road.”

Charania said that those in the room understood that the message was directed toward Morant, a teammate of Adams’s since the Grizzlies acquired him from New Orleans in August 2021.

Memphis, as Charania pointed out, is 26–5 at home this season but just 12–20 on the road.
