Report: Steph Curry, Draymond Green ‘strong advocates’ for Warriors keeping Avery Bradley

Following the preseason finale, the Golden State Warriors released four players, including Avery Bradley.

After signing with Golden State before training camp, the 11-year veteran guard was a candidate for the Warriors’ 15th and final roster spot. However, the Warriors will likely head into the regular season with the final roster spot open.

Despite the release of Bradley, the former All-Defensive first-team wing had fans at Golden State’s facility, including Steph Curry and Draymond Green. According to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, Curry and Green were among a group of “strong advocates” for keeping Bradley on the roster.

Via The Athletic:

In releasing Avery Bradley, the Warriors had to thwart the wishes of their best players, according to team sources. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green were among a group of strong advocates for keeping Bradley. The almost 31-year-old entering his 12th season didn’t look especially impactful in his preseason run. But those who favored Bradley weren’t at all concerned about how a proven veteran looked in preseason. Instead, they saw Bradley as someone with the credibility to help their hopes for a deep playoff run.

During his preseason run with the Warriors, the Texas Longhorns product averaged 4.2 points on 38.9% shooting from the floor in 12.7 minutes per game.

With an open spot on the bench, the Warriors will head into the regular season with some flexibility on the back end of the roster. If Golden State plans to add a player, they could wait until the buyout market heats up later in the season.
