Report: Steph Curry could host San Francisco PGA Tour event in 2021

After much anticipation, Stephen Curry could finally have the chance to host a PGA Tour event in the Bay Area. The Golden State Warriors point guard has been in talks with the Tour for nearly two years.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Parks and Recreations Commission unanimously approved an amendment in their contract with the PGA Tour that will likely lead to Curry hosting an event in San Francisco.

His initial talks were aimed at hosting the event at Daly City’s Lake Merced Golf Club. However, the new Curry hosted event is slated to take place in the 2021 Fall edition of the Tour’s schedule at San Francisco’s public course, TPC Harding Park. In August, Harding Park will be the site of the 2020 PGA Championship.

According to Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle, Curry’s family foundation Eat. Learn. Play. will be involved with the tournament. Workday, the software finance company based in the Bay Area, is expected to serve as the title sponsor for the Bay Area golf event.

The two-time Most Valuable Player is coming off a fourth-place finish in his eighth appearance at Lake Tahoe’s celebrity golf tournament, the American Century Championship at Edgewood Golf Resort.

Curry has been a longtime advocate of the game, serving as an ambassador for the PGA Junior League. In 2019, the six-time All-Star pledged a significant donation to Howard University for the creation of a men’s and women’s golf program.

With the Golden State Warriors extended offseason on deck, Curry will have plenty of time to hit the golf course before he hosts his first PGA Tour event.
