Report: Steelers reach deal to send OT Marcus Gilbert to Cardinals

It looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers made a trade on Friday. No, not that trade. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers will send offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert to the Arizona Cardinals for a sixth-round pick.

Gilbert became expendable when he missed 11 games in 2018. This was made worse for Gilbert with the emergence of Matt Feiler. With Gilbert’s $6.6 million cap hit, it was only a matter of time until he would be gone.

The Steelers selected Gilbert in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He started 87 games during his career and is still a very good offensive tackle. Pittsburgh frees up some money by dealing Gilbert — the move will become official March 13 — and will hopefully delve into free agency to try to bolster the defense.
