Report: Steelers to name QB Mason Rudolph No. 2 quarterback

Perhaps the most hotly contested positional battle for the Pittsburgh Steelers during the preseason was the backup quarterback job. Mason Rudolph and Joshua Dobbs have been going back and forth to see who will dress on game days and perhaps have the leg up to be the team’s long-term starter after Big Ben retires.

According to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler, Dobbs, who was the backup last season has lost his spot on the depth chart to Rudolph this season.

There’s no denying Rudolph has outplayed Dobbs this preseason. It seemed week after week Dobbs was playing himself out of a job. Rudolph’s grasp fo the offense and poise have been evident and the former third-round pick seems to be much closer to being starter ready than this time last season.
