Report: Steelers set up tentative plans to meet with Russell Wilson

Who could have seen this coming? (Everyone.)

The Denver Broncos are set to officially release Russell Wilson next week and the Pittsburgh Steelers are already showing interest in the quarterback.

The Steelers are “interested in signing Russell Wilson,” and the team is “tentatively” planning to meet with the QB before free agency begins, according to a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette‘s Gerry Dulac.

Dulac also reported that Wilson “has interest in joining Steelers.”

This, of course, is no surprise. Pittsburgh is considered the clear favorite to sign Wilson once he officially becomes available.

For salary cap reasons, the Broncos are not officially releasing Wilson until the NFL’s new league year begins on March 13, but the club has given the QB permission to meet with teams before he officially hits free agency.

Wilson, 35, completed 66.4% of his passes for 3,070 yards with 26 touchdowns against eight interceptions in 15 games last season. Denver announced the QB’s upcoming release on Monday. The Steelers are among the Broncos’ scheduled opponents in 2024.
