Report: Steelers LB Ola Adeniyi out 2-4 weeks with meniscus tear

One of the biggest positives to come from training camp for the Pittsburgh Steelers has been the play of linebacker Ola Adeniyi. After missing almost all of his rookie season with an injury, Adeniyi was on the fast track to being the Steelers top reserve outside linebacker. His power and burst off the edge are reminiscent of former Steeler James Harrison and hopes are high.

But as of now, Adeniyi’s breakout season is on pause. On Friday, Adeniyi posted and promptly deleted a photo of himself after undergoing a surgical procedure. At the time no one knew exactly what sort of procedure he’d had done but according to Steelers reporter Gerry Dulac, it was to repair a torn meniscus.

The problem with a meniscus injury is there is very little blood flow to the area so healing is slow. Often times, athletes who suffer meniscus tears will simply opt to let it heal on its own which is often faster than surgery or have it removed entirely. If Adeniyi has decided to have surgery now, I would assume the tear is very minor. Nevertheless, 4 weeks out puts the start of the season in jeopardy for the talented edge rusher.
