Report: Starting RT Isaiah Wilson to miss time with injury – what that means for the offensive line

Multiple sources have confirmed to Dean Legge of DawgPost that starting right tackle Isaiah Wilson will miss this weekend’s game vs Murray State after suffering a lower leg injury during Wednesday’s practice.

Legge reports:

“The injury is not considered overly serious, but out of caution, the starting right tackle is expected to miss at least this weekend’s game.”

“At least” being the key phrase in the sentence above. If Wilson is forced to sit out multiple games, and one of Legge’s sources speculates it could be 2-3 weeks, who will step in to take over at right tackle?

Typically an injury to your starting right tackle is a big blow for an offense, but in Georgia’s case, it’s more of a slight obstacle.

It’s likely that sophomore Cade Mays, who started at right guard vs Murray State, would step in and man the right tackle position.

Ben Cleveland also saw a decent amount of action at right guard last weekend, rotating with Mays.

Expect Mays to take over at right tackle and Cleveland to hold down the right  guard spot.

Additionally, former 5-star recruit Jamaree Salyer should be back this weekend after missing week one with what Legge reported was a high-ankle sprain. On Wednesday, Salyer was practicing at right tackle behind Wilson.

Sam Pittman has been working his magic on the offensive line since his arrival in Athens, so there’s no reason to hit the panic button.

“Next man up” — and Georgia has a good amount of men who can fill the temporary void.
