Report: Sony Michel gets knee scope, will be ready for training camp

New England Patriots running back Sony Michel missed a handful of the team’s spring practices this offseason after undergoing a knee scope, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe. Michel should be back by training camp.

Michel finished the regular season with 209 carries for 931 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. In the playoffs, he became even more important to the offense with 71 carries for 336 yards and six touchdowns in three games, including Super Bowl LIII when he scored the game’s only touchdown.

Michel’s return by training camp will be paramount, as he will likely try to take on an increased role in the passing game. He and Tom Brady were not on the same page in terms of route running and timing, and Michel was nearly a non-factor as a pass-catcher. That may have been due to the fact that Michel was not present for most of 2018 training camp with knee issues. More training-camp time on the field with Brady in 2019 could help Michel improve in the passing game.
