Report: Seahawks to sign veteran defensive tackle Earl Mitchell

The Seattle Seahawks have just reported for the first day of training camp and will already be receiving some extra help on the defensive line.

The team plans to sign veteran defensive tackle Earl Mitchell, according to a tweet from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

The roster move comes on the heels of the news defensive lineman Jarran Reed will be suspended for the first six games of the regular season due to a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy. He is not eligible to return to the Seahawks’ active roster until Oct. 14.

The former 49er should make an immediate impact in Reed’s absence.

Mitchell was originally selected by the Texans in the third round of the NFL draft out of Arizona and also spent time with the Dolphins before heading to the NFC West. He had visited Seattle in March but left town with no deal in place.

Seattle has yet to announce the signing.
