Report: Seahawks to to re-sign defensive back Jamar Taylor

The Seattle Seahawks will be re-signing defensive back Jamar Taylor, according to a tweet from NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo.

It was thought all along that the Seahawks may pursue a reunion with Taylor after Week 1. Because he is a vested veteran, the Seahawks can re-sign Taylor on a week to week basis, instead of guaranteeing his contract for the entire season.

Taylor was the favorite candidate for the team’s vacant nickelback position throughout training camp and the preseason. However, he was cut in favor of Akeem King and Ugo Amadi, and the team eventually brought in Parry Nickerson to compete at that spot as well.

Nickerson was a healthy inactive in Week 1 though, and Seattle stuck with their base defense for most of the game.

It seems likely that Taylor will immediately step into the top of the depth chart at the nickel spot now that he is back in the fold.

No word has been given on the severity of the injury suffered by Neiko Thorpe, but it is a possibility that he will be placed on the injured reserve in order to clear a spot on the roster for Taylor
