Report: Saints re-sign rookie WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey to practice squad

The New Orleans Saints shuffled their depth chart at wide receiver over the weekend, promoting third-year pro Krishawn Hogan from the practice squad and waiving rookie Lil’Jordan Humphrey from the 53-man roster. Humphrey passed through waivers unclaimed, and reportedly re-signed with the Saints practice, per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Hogan played 10 snaps on offense and four on special teams in New Orleans’ 31-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Humphrey initially signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Texas; now he’s back on the practice squad to continue developing as a big-bodied slot specialist. Here’s our rough approximation of what the current Saints depth chart may look like at wide receiver:

  1. Michael Thomas
  2. Ted Ginn Jr.
  3. Tre’Quan Smith (managing an ankle injury)
  4. Austin Carr
  5. Deonte Harris
  6. Krishawn Hogan
  7. Lil’Jordan Humphrey (practice squad)
  8. Emmanuel Butler (practice squad)
  9. Taquan Mizzell (practice squad)

Additionally, the Saints lost Keith Kirkwood to the injured reserve list earlier this year after he hurt his hamstring during pregame warmups on Sept. 15. There’s a possibility he may recover in time to return to the active roster later in the regular season, which would be a big boost for a unit lacking players with significant NFL experience.
