Report: Saints RB Alvin Kamara Enters Plea for Charges in Las Vegas Nightclub Incident

Saints running back Alvin Kamara has agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge for his role in a 2022 Las Vegas brawl, according to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.com. The felony charge of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm is going away, according to the report.

Kyle J. Paine of 8 News Now was the first to report the news. He will plead no contest to the misdemeanor charge of breach of peace and he will have to do community service and pay $100,000 to Darnelle Greene, the man who reported the attack, for his medical bills, per the report. Kamara’s attorney, David Chesnoff, confirmed to ESPN that he took the plea deal and avoided the felony charge.

“Alvin is pleased that this matter is behind him and looks forward to a successful NFL season,” Chesnoff said in a statement.

Kamara was one of four people indicted for his role in a Feb. 5, 2022, incident, with the charges originally reported to be a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit battery and a felony charge of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. The incident happened during the weekend of the ’22 Pro Bowl, and a security camera video was later released that showed the entire brawl at an elevator at Drai’s Nightclub.

According to the arrest record obtained by Sports Illustrated, Greene was waiting outside an elevator with a group of people, including the four men indicted. When the elevator doors opened, Kamara put his hand on Greene’s chest to stop him from entering the elevator, which prompted Greene to swipe Kamara’s hand off him.

According to the arrest report, Kamara punched Greene after he swiped his hand and continued to punch him as Greene tried to escape in the hallways but was knocked down and eventually lost consciousness. While laying motionless, Kamara and the three men allegedly continued to kick and punch him until security intervened, and then they were escorted to the valet, where they got into a Cadillac SUV and left. Greene did not hit nor punch anyone during the incident.

Kamara, 27, never faced any punishment from the NFL and played the entire 2022 season. But now that the ordeal is coming to an end on the legal side, he could face discipline for violating the league’s conduct policy.

“We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remain under review,” an NFL spokesperson said.
