Report: Saints hosting Tar Heels linebacker on pre-draft visit

The New Orleans Saints are meeting with another linebacker prospect ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that the Saints are one of four teams to fly North Carolina linebacker Cole Holcomb into town to visit privately at team facilities, along with the Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs, and Dallas Cowboys.

Holcomb jumped onto the NFL’s radar after his dynamic pro day workout, where the 6-foot-1, 234 pound linebacker timed a 4.48-second 40-yard dash and posted a 132-inch broad jump. That’s a rare combination of short-area burst and long speed for someone of his size.

Teams doubling back to Holcomb’s college game tape after his impressive workout could find a lot to like. He started three of four years at North Carolina, logging 327 career tackles (171 solo), 15.5 of them for loss of yards. He also chipped in four forced fumbles and a dozen pass deflections. If there’s more to his game than shows up in the box score and his athletic profile, don’t be shocked if he ends up being selected on the third day of the draft.
