Report: Saints hosted running back Jalin Moore on pre-draft visit

The New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears were listed among teams interested in running back Jalin Moore, per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Moore played for Appalachian State in college, where he scored 29 touchdowns in his last 29 games before an ugly midsesaon ankle injury cut his senior year short. Moore dominated in his four years at App State, averaging 102 rushing yards per game for the (other) black and gold at a clip of 6.1 yards per carry — setting the all-time school record.

Moore fits the Saints’ prototype for the position at 5-foot-10, 212 pounds, and he’s strong as an ox: his 27 consecutive reps of 225 pounds on the bench press ranked second among running backs at the NFL Scouting Combine. He reportedly looked great in positional drills at his pro day, but wasn’t cleared medically to begin training for the 40-yard dash. So he performed everything else and earned second looks from interested teams like the Saints.

Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray will be the most-common faces in the New Orleans backfield in 2019, but pickings are slim behind them. The Saints have taken close looks at a number of running back prospects as they seek to add a quality backup, and Moore certainly fits the bill. He projects to be selected early on the third day of the 2019 NFL Draft, possibly in the fourth round.
