Report: Saints hold official pre-draft visit with Shareef Miller

The New Orleans Saints were able to squeeze in an official pre-draft visit Penn State defensive end Shareef Miller, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. He’ll be visiting New Orleans in between stops with the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles.

Miller made regular appearances along Penn State’s defensive line for three years, tallying some impressive stats along the way. Of his 100 combined tackles, 58 were solo and 31.5 resulted in lost yards for the offense. He also chipped in 14.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two recovered fumbles. He made the most of his opportunities.

How many opportunities Miller will get in the NFL seems to be up in the air. He’s on the fringe of positional benchmarks for size at defensive end (measuring 6-foot-4 1/2, 254 pounds) and posted an incomplete athletic profile, though what he did at the combine was impressive. His 4.69-second 40-yard dash time is an indicator of strong all-around athleticism.

The Saints likely wanted to get another look at Miller and run him through other drills to fill in the gaps. He projects to be selected on the third day of the draft, and could be a candidate to compete with Trey Hendrickson as the third Saints pass rusher behind Cameron Jordan and Marcus Davenport.
