The New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers are two teams vying for Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. in the final minutes before free agency, per Calvin Watkins of the Dallas News. Watkins added that the Dallas Cowboys were among other teams initially in the Harris sweepstakes, along with the Las Vegas Raiders (who just landed Eli Apple) and the New York Jets.
Harris would be a huge get for the Saints, particularly if they’re able to retain Janoris Jenkins across from Marshon Lattimore. Harris has developed into a solid cornerback out on the boundaries, but he’s always played at his best from the slot. The Saints recently worked out a restructured contract with projected nickel corner Patrick Robinson, but Harris would be a big upgrade at that third corner spot. Like many teams, the Saints defense plays out of nickel sets more than base looks, meaning their nickel corner is basically a starter.
Harris figures to have a busy market once the new league year begins at 3 p.m. CT. Denver7’s Troy Renck noted that the Chargers, Saints, and Philadelphia Eagles are each making competing offers for the four-time Pro Bowler with 20 career interceptions.
