Report: Rutgers CB Isaiah Wharton works out for the Lions

If the private workouts for draft prospects are any indication, the Detroit Lions are very interested in this year’s cornerback class. Per NFL.com’s Chase Goodbread, the Lions hosted Rutgers CB Isaiah Wharton at the team facility in Allen Park.

Wharton was a four-year starter for the Scarlet Knights. He brings size at 6-foot-0 and 200 pounds. Speed is not his calling card; at Rutgers’ recent pro day he ran the 40-yard dash in the mid-4.6’s.

The Lions previously met with Wharton in January at the Shrine Game, where he fared pretty well in practice sessions. While he’s not fast, Wharton showed he can be physical and does react quickly. He is generally not projected to be drafted but could sneak into the later portion of Day 3 in the 2019 NFL Draft.
