Report: Ex-Bengals RB coach Kyle Caskey spotted in Lions gear

NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala is reporting that former Bengals running backs coach Kyle Caskey was spotted at the NFL combine in Detroit Lions gear, presumably filling the team’s vacated role on the coaching staff after David Walker stepped away from coaching after the 2018 season.

While the Lions have yet to acknowledge this hire, this is as clear an indication of the hire as one can make.

Caskey was hired by Cincinnati in 2010 as an assistant offensive line coach and was promoted to running backs coach in 2014. He held this position until this past offseason when he was let go when the Bengals made a head coaching change.

Under the tutelage of Caskey, Joe Mixon ran for 1,168 yards in 2018 on his way to an AFC rushing title. Caskey is also credited for Giovani Bernard’s and Jeremy Hill’s development; both were drafted the year Caskey was named running backs coach.

Expect this hire to be confirmed tomorrow when general manager Bob Quinn (10:30) or coach Matt Patricia (10:45) take the podium for interviews in Indianapolis at the NFL combine.
