Report: Ron Rivera wasn’t present during Redskins’ meet with Tua Tagovailoa

Much has been said about whether the Washington Redskins would use the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NFL draft on Alabama passer Tua Tagovailoa.

But for such a point of speculation to really take hold and work, someone of importance like Redskins head coach Ron Rivera would’ve needed to attend the combine meet with Tagovailoa, right?

Because according to a new report from JP Finlay of NBC Sports, Rivera wasn’t even in the combine meeting.

That meeting has caused plenty of speculation since it happened. Yet if the Redskins were intent on using the second pick to provide some competition to Dwayne Haskins, the head coach would’ve been there, right?

The idea a new head coach wants to arrive and go get his own guy under center is backed by plenty of history. And Rivera himself has suggested there will be a competition under center.

But as of right now, most chatter about a passer at No. 2 seems to lean into “smokescreen” territory than anything else.
