Report: Rodney Anderson injury has Bengals prepped for ‘worst possible news’

The Cincinnati Bengals fear the worst for rookie running back Rodney Anderson.

Anderson left the team’s fourth preseason game limping and was quickly ruled out. Naturally, the worry was he appeared to hurt the same knee as the one he hurt in college that influenced his slide to the late rounds.

According to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, the team is prepping for the worst:

They’ve braced themselves for the worst possible news after Anderson limped off the field on his fifth run of the game after injuring the same right knee in which he tore his ACL in last year’s second game at Oklahoma.

The fear is he has torn it again, just two weeks after coming back from the rehab and one week after such an encouraging NFL debut.

Call it a brutal, unfortunate turn of events hardly a week removed from Anderson getting clearance and putting on a show in the third preseason game.

If Anderson needs to rehab again he’ll go on injured reserve.  That leaves the team thin at running back behind Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard, as fellow rookie Trayveon Williams isn’t expected back from his foot injury by Week 1.
