Report: Rodger Saffold intends to sign $44M deal with Titans

Rodger Saffold was deemed “too expensive” for the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday as the writing was on the wall for his impending departure. He also said goodbye to teammates and coaches at the facility, indicating he was signing elsewhere.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Saffold plans to sign a four-year deal with the Titans. It’s reportedly worth $44 million with $22.5 million in guarantees. Saffold was considered the top guard available in free agency.

Saffold spent the last nine years with the Rams, earning the title of being the team’s longest-tenured player. He was drafted in the second round in 2010, playing every offensive line position in the NFL besides center.

After battling injuries earlier in his career, Saffold has proved to be durable in recent years. He’s missed just one game due to injury since 2016 and has stepped up his level of play each year since.

He was Pro Football Focus’ 9th-best safety last season, earning an overall grade of 72.8. Saffold missed just 32 snaps all season, too.

At $11 million per year, Saffold is now tied with Gabe Jackson as the sixth-highest paid guard in the NFL.
