Report: Rockets to sign Eric Gordon to four-year, $76-million extension

The Houston Rockets will be in the running for an NBA championship when the 2019-20 season tips off, but GM Daryl Morey wanted to take care of a little business before the season starts.

Key perimeter player Eric Gordon was set to become a free agent in 2020, but now the Rockets have nixed any thought of him testing the waters. According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets have agreed to a four-year, $76-million contract extension to keep Gordon in Houston for the long haul.

Gordon will likely play a big role next to James Harden and Russell Westbrook in spreading the floor for them to operate.

The fourth year of the contract is not guaranteed, but in the bigger picture, they were able to lock up a key piece of their team.

Gordon averaged 16.2 points in 68 games with Houston in 2018-19 while starting 53 of them. He shot 36 percent from deep on 8.8 attempts and that is the number that is the most important. That three-point shooting is going to be essential and his numbers could go higher now that Westbrook is in tow.

It appears that the Rockets now have everything set to go for their title chase in 2019-20.
