Report: Robert Kraft met with Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez about Mets bid

The New York Mets could very possibly have new owners in Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez. New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft reportedly saw an opportunity and wants to help out with their new venture.

Kraft and his son Jonathan met up with Rodriguez and Lopez at Gillette Stadium, along with bankers from JPMorgan Chase to discuss a possible bid on the Mets, according to the New York Post. Kraft would be involved with developing a Mets mall that is comparable to Patriots Place at Gillette Stadium.

Kraft, 79, is one of the most successful owners of a professional sports franchise and his past success would tremendously help the young and aspiring team owners in Rodriguez and Lopez.

Here’s what the New York Post said.

According to multiple sources who witnessed the visit, J-Rod flew to Foxborough, Mass., on July 9 to meet with Bob and Jonathan Kraft, father-and-son owners of the New England Patriots, to hammer out a partnership on stadium operations for Citi Field and the development of Willets Point around the ballpark.

Per insiders, the visit lasted five hours, during which the Krafts showed J-Rod around both Gillette Stadium and their adjoining entertainment, retail and hospitality complex, Patriot Place. The tour was meant to show the potential new Mets owners what can be done with a stadium and the undeveloped land around it.

Though New York holds some of the biggest rivalries to Massachusetts-based professional sports teams — Kraft has shown love in recent memory. He would enter another gigantic market and continue to build on the $6.9 billion net worth that he carries.
