Report reveals what Chargers are seeking in trade for RB Melvin Gordon

Two days after giving running back Melvin Gordon and his representatives permission to seek trade partners, there reportedly has been one team that has shown interest in acquiring the 26-year-old running back.

That team is unknown, but we know the Chargers’ asking price, at least initally. Los Angeles is seeking a 2020 first-round draft pick or a 2020 fifth-round pick and a 2021 first-round selection, per ESPN’s Josina Anderson.

The Bolts have made a fair offer to Gordon, but he believes that he’s worth more. Given what the Chargers are asking for in return for the former Wisconsin product, it doesn’t line up with how much they’re willing to offer.

That team will have to give up a lot of draft capital and give Gordon the extension he wants.

We originally felt Los Angeles would only be able to land a third-round pick and an additional late-round selection in next year’s draft at best. But it appears they have set the bar high, and now it’ll be a matter of whether a team budges.

If Gordon plays this season and walks in free agency afterward, the Chargers would get a compensatory pick in the 2021 draft, which would likely be a third-round selection.

This will be monitored closely, especially to hear if the one team showing interest is revealed. One notable thing worth mentioning is that Gordon recently started following the Eagles, Raiders, Falcons and 49ers on Instagram.
