Report reveals number of coronavirus-related deaths in Lanarkshire care homes

Coronavirus has been responsible for 37 deaths in South Lanarkshire's care homes.

Figures released by the National Records of Scotland revealed that 103 people in South Lanarkshire have died as a result of the virus - 36 per cent of which were in a care home.

Just under half of all deaths (51) occurred in the region's hospitals while 15 residents died at home from COVID-19.

More than 10 per cent of the 348 care home deaths in South Lanarkshire this year have been related to COVID-19.

In neighbouring North Lanarkshire, less people as a percentage (29 per cent) have died in a care home from coronavirus.

A total of 125 deaths in the region have been linked to COVID-19 with 37 of these occurring in a care home.

North Lanarkshire also saw 73 residents die in hospital from coronavirus and 14 in their own home.

In total, 228 people in Lanarkshire have died from coronavirus.

Last week, it was revealed that Lanarkshire had the second highest rate of death from coronavirus in Scotland.

In the county, 3.5 people in every 10,000 have died from coronavirus. Across Scotland, the rate is 2.9 per 10,000 people.

The data includes all deaths registered up to Sunday, April 19.
