The Boston Celtics apart from veteran guard Marcus Smart are free of the coronavirus wreaking havoc on the NBA and the world, reports the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy.
The Celtics have been self-quarantining in accordance with league instructions after the Mar. 11 suspension of NBA activities sparked by Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert testing positive for the disease.
Boston had hired a private firm to test their players after playing the Jazz in proximity to Gobert’s positive results, and Smart’s results were delivered with an asymptomatic positive result soon after.
The Texan guard has remained in quarantine since, appearing on CNN to discuss his situation and counsel others to physically distance themselves to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
Murphy’s report that the rest of the team is most excellent new indeed, as the number of confirmed cases in the U.S. continue to rise.
While it’s still too soon to say if the NBA will be able to resume activities by the hoped-for June target, less infected players around the league is certainly a boon to such an outcome.
